Villa La Curia is the center of a 400-hectare agricultural estate dedicated to organic farming in province of Siena. Located in the heart of the famous hills south of Siena, known as “Crete Senesi ”, a Unesco World Heritage cultural landscape, the Villa is 18 km from Siena and 20 km from Montalcino, internationally renowned for its Brunello wine.
The eye ranges from the Torre del Mangia and the bell tower of Siena to the hills of Montalcino with its medieval fortress, offering a breathtaking perspective.
Lovers of the Sienese landscape will be able to fully enjoy the contrasting beauty offered from nature: on the one hand the delicate course of the soft hills in a palette of colours ranging from dark green in spring to fierce intense yellow in summer; on the other, the earth burnished, harsh and rough with a color so surprising and characteristic that it deserves a specific name: Terre di Siena burnt.
Nature, history, art and wine embrace Curiano to fully experience an experience in the real world Tuscany.
Villa La Curia is located in the small village of Curiano between Monteroni d’Arbia and Buonconvento on the Via Cassia. Its origins are very ancient as various testify notarial deeds dating back to 1079.
In a document from 1290, a spring on top of the ‘Curliano’ coast is mentioned, to be restored with stones and bricks, testimony of Curiano’s “post office” role as a refreshment point along the Francigena, the ancient road that connected central Europe to Rome in the Middle Ages.
In the mid-fourteenth century the presence of a ‘hospital’ is witnessed, donated with various fields and vineyards to the Dominican Fathers of Siena. The hospital was a refuge to welcome the poor, pilgrims and the religious ‘of any order’ who came along the path that led from Canterbury through France to Rome.
Sold by the Dominican Fathers in the mid-1600s, with the obligation that it be left there Hospital to welcome the poor and pilgrims, Curiano then passed over the centuries from the property of the Nini and Bandinelli, from the Sergardi to the Mocenni, at the beginning of the twentieth century.
During the 1900s the estate was purchased by the Collobiano family and then in 1954 by the Masettis and by
these, by inheritance, pass to the current owner, the marquise Isabella Gaetani di Canossa.
Today Curiano is the beating heart of an organic farm, extending for about 400 hectares.
