Polignano a Mare is an Italian town of 18,023 inhabitants [1] of the metropolitan city of Bari in Apulia. The oldest part of the town stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Adriatic Sea at 33 kilometers south of the capital.
Of natural interest are its marine caves and historically important are the historic center and the remains of Roman rule. Among the latter, the bridge of the Via Traiana, still viable, that crosses Lama Monachile. There are about forty sea caves, many of which can be visited by boat, which embellish the coast of Polignano a Mare.
Among all the "Ardito cave" for the rare beauty, the caves "Blue", "the Nuns", "the Columns", "Colombi" and the feature "the swallows cave". The "Grotta Palazzese", unique for its outstanding beauty and character, the mention of the "seven scenic wonders of the world".
Since 2008, Polignano a Mare has always received the Blue Flag, award given by the Foundation for Environmental Education for European coastal resorts that meet quality criteria related to the bathing water parameters and service offered in relation to parameters such as the cleanliness of the beaches and marinas.
Closed like a clam in its medieval dimension, with high walls and overhanging rocks on marine waters, the ancient village of Polignano always represents the history, culture and soul of the local people.
The marquis round, welcoming visitors and introduces the "Clock Square" with its ancient sundial where stands the church of Santa Maria Assunta which houses the relics of the Saint Patron Vito and the crib Stefano from Putignano, national monument .
From the square branch off radially narrow streets, paved with stones polished by time, which lead the visitor in one of the most beautiful landscapes that the coast of Puglia offer, appreciated by the many balconies that look over or on stretch of sea water with a break in vacuum of 24 meters.
The impressive evening atmosphere, the play of light, the music of summer and the many local concerts give the "old" country one of the busiest points of Polignano.
